Middlesbrough-Steaua 4-2 Uefa Cup Semi-finals

Steaua lost the away leg of the aggregate against Middlesbrough last Thursday by four goals to two in the UEFA Cup semifinal, which means the English side has progressed to the final of the competition.
Our team started the game very well and we were two goals ahead after just 24 minutes of play, goals scored by Dica and Goian. The hosts pulled a goal back in the 33th minute and it was all to play for in the second half. Unfortunately our players were unable to manage the overall advantage of two goals they had at half time on Thursday and were completely dominated in the second half by the very motivated Steve McLaren’s players.
Boro had a dream second half and scored three goals without conceding any so our dream of getting into a new European Cup final turned into a nightmare.
What happened in the last minutes of this game was truly UNBELIEVABLE! The hosts scored the winner when they needed it most, in the 89th minute, just as they did in the quarterfinal aggregate against the Swiss side Basel.
This meant that for Steaau the dream of playing another European Cup final exactly 20 years after winning the supreme continental trophy in Seville was truly over. It is a great shame for Steaua and for all the Romanian football!
Even so, let us look at this as an achievement for our club and let us all agree that STEAUA is the one who made the Romanian football once again highly regarded in Europe just by getting once more into a continental cup semifinal!
We must also look back and agree that this is still the greatest achievement at European level for any Romanian team after 1989, so once more, congratulations to STEAUA BUCHAREST for this!
